“To be, or not to be…”

Welcome back to BHCS for the 2020-2021 school year.

We will be starting our lessons via Zoom due to the Corona situation still being quite serious.

Please follow the links on our Google Classroom.

Not everyone is born to be a writer. One course that all students in college, any college, must take is a course on writing (usually two required courses). For students who are not natural writers, any writing intensive course could sound daunting. If a student’s native language is not English, college-level required writing intensive courses are even more fearsome. This course is designed to decrease students’ anxiety about writing and learn necessary skills that would prepare them to courageously take on any writing assignments in college-level courses, especially courses that are designed to be writing intensive. During the first semester, students will be engaging with inquiry-based argumentative writing where students will learn to raise questions and take stance. In the second semester, the course will shift its focus and dive into the art of research. In class, they will be raising necessary questions about contemporary controversial issues. Then, after raising questions on issues, they will be able to choose a stance and effectively reason for their position in the argument. By the end of this year, students will be well equipped to take on any required writing classes in college. We will be focusing on developing better writing skills as well.

Course Objectives

  1. The course will decrease the student’s anxiety about academic writing.
  2. Students will be able to engage in inquiry-based thinking, analysis and writing.
  3. Students will be able to reason effectively and logically in their argumentative writing.
  4. Students will be able to conduct research and utilize their research materials effectively into their writing.
